Rothenthurm – in Switzerland’s largest raised bog

The village of Rothenthurm is situated in an upland valley at 930 metres above sea level. Between Rothenthurm and Biberbrugg lies one of Switzerland’s largest raised bogs, whose pristine natural beauty fascinates visitors at any time of year. Visitors can explore the unique landscape on foot, but also by bike, on horseback or with cross-country skis.

Sights

In the village centre, you will find the 14th-century Letziturm tower, as well as the St. Anthony Parish Church, one of the most distinctive churches in the canton of Schwyz. In the hamlet of Biberegg, which you can explore via a beautiful circular trail, you will find the historically important Loreto Chapel.

Ski lift and indoor pool

Additional insider’s tips for activities include the Neusell ski lift and the indoor pool by the primary school, which is also accessible to the public at certain times. The main road with its shops and restaurants runs through the centre of Rothenthurm.
