Santa Claus procession in Schwyz

The festive Santa Claus procession takes place in Schwyz every year at the beginning of December.

Every year, the festive Santa Claus procession takes place in Schwyz at the beginning of December. Several Santa Clauses walk from St. Martin's Church through Herrengasse in Schwyz and are accompanied by at least two Schmutzli and two altar boys/ministers. The Schmutzlis are Santa's helpers and work for him. They get dirty and are therefore called "Schmutzli". They bugle on their way from house to house and carry the gifts and presents for the children to Santa Claus. After the Santa Claus procession, the children are given presents on the Hofmatt and the adults can round off the pre-Christmas atmosphere with a mulled wine.
