Which myths can be proved historically? What are the most typical characteristics of our heroes and what is Swiss about them? Why, when, where and how did the first tourists come to Lake Lucerne and Central Switzerland? What has survived from this history? The Web-based educational platform Lernen unterwegs (Learning along the way) provides information and teaching materials based on the Lehrplan 21 curriculum for primary and lower/upper secondary schools.

Four educationally oriented thematic tours on the history and heroes of Swiss are available: these are distributed around the lake. The thematic tours can be downloaded as PDFs. Each is divided into chapters:

The aims of the follow-up in class are the cooperation, reflection and analyses of the gained knowledge from the preparation an excursion of the same task as well as the discussion in the plenum.

Thematic tour 3 – The setting - «Rütli» & the lake of uri

According to legend, the three representatives of the founding cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden pledged themselves to the Eternal Alliance of the Three Forest Cantons on the Rütli meadow on 1 August 1291. Ever since, every Swiss person has regarded the Rütli as a memorial site for the historic event of the Rütli oath.

During the Belle Époque, hundreds of tourists visit the region of Central Switzerland. First, they came in the city of Lucerne and later also in the mountain region.
