The two rack railways from Vitznau (Europe’s first rack railway, dating from 1871) and Goldau, as well as the panoramic cable car from Weggis, make even the journey to the mountain an unforgettable adventure.
With 120 kilometres of well-signposted walking trails, this approximately 90-square-kilometre and car-free adventure and leisure destination is the perfect place to enjoy walks and mountain hikes. The splendid alpine flora and unique views of the lakes and mountains quicken the pulse of every walker. Early risers are rewarded with picturesque sunrises. Numerous hotels and restaurants have sun terraces for you to relax on. There are also rustic barbecue areas (‘gruebis’) at which to enjoy a homemade picnic from your rucksack.
In winter, the views of the giant sea of mist offer a unique experience. 35 kilometres of groomed winter walking trails, four toboggan runs, ski pistes and an airboard piste offer everything you need for a perfect winter’s day.
