Illgau-Vorderoberberg cable car

The little village of Illgau is located on a sunny plateau above the Muota Valley at 800 metres above sea level, far removed from hectic daily life and off the beaten tourist track. Illgau is the ideal starting point for splendid walks in the region of Mythen, Ibergeregg, Hoch-Ybrig and the Muota Valley.

The cable car takes you from the village of Illgau to St. Karl, an area for walks and leisure activities that is popular among families. Once you board the cable car, you are in a world of forests, meadows, cows and the occasional farm.

The Chäferliweg trail begins directly by the mountain station of the Illgau – St. Karl cable car, and you can find the necessary search maps at the valley station or mountain station. The offspring of the Käfer family (‘Käfer’ being German for ‘beetle’, with ‘Chäferli’ the Swiss dialect term for the same) have hidden themselves in various places along this approximately 3.5-kilometre adventure trail. Equipped with beetle maps, you can walk this trail in search of the seven Käfer kids. Simply follow the painted-on beetles on the ground.

This adventure trail features many attractions. A blindfold trail, a glockenspiel and the Balmli adventure playground – which features a climbing rope, a swing, eagles’ eyrie and barbecue area – are there to be explored. Little adventurers will also be thrilled by the new forest playground by the mountain station.
