Tell-Trail: long-distance hiking in the heart of Switzerland.

The new Tell-Trail long-distance trail takes walkers right through the picturesque Lucerne – Lake Lucerne region from Altdorf to the Brienzer Rothorn. It can be completed in eight stages and takes in glittering mountain lakes, historic villages, world-famous destinations and the “Big 6” of the Central Swiss mountains: Stoos, Rigi, Pilatus, Stanserhorn, Titlis and Brienzer Rothorn. Constant companions on the way include the widely varied flora and fauna and the spectacular mountain panorama.

The trail starts by the Tell Monument in Altdorf then makes a wide arc, in part following rivers to reach the Muotathal valley before ascending to Stoos and the Fronalpstock. It then heads for the Rigi, the Pilatus and the Stanserhorn and concludes on the Brienzer Rothorn after passing though Engelberg and Melchsee-Frutt.

The 8 stages

Tell-Trail stage 1: Altdorf - Muotathal

The first stage of the Tell-Trail starts at Altdorf and follows the Via Suworow over the Chinzig pass through the Wängi valley into the Muotathal valley.

Tell-Trail stage 2: Muotathal - Brunnen

The second stage of the Tell-Trail leads from the Muotathal valley to the mountain village of Stoos. Then it's a ridge walk from the Klingenstock to the Fronalpstock, over the Schwyzerhöhe to Brunnen.

Tell-Trail stage 3: Brunnen - Rigi Kaltbad - Lucerne

The third stage of the Tell-Trail leads from Brunnen over the Gätterli pass to Rigi Kaltbad. Then it's a cog railway ride down to Vitznau followed by a boat trip to Lucerne.

Tell-Trail stage 4: Lucerne-Pilatus-Stans

The fourth stage of the Tell-Trail starts in Lucerne and leads via Fräkmünt up the Pilatus. The descent to Alpnachstad is by cogwheel railway then a walk to Stans.

Tell-Trail stage 5: Stans-Engelberg

The fifth stage of the Tell-Trail starts on the Stanserhorn. Then you hike along the newly opened ridge path over the Storegg pass to Engelberg.

Tell-Trail stage 6: Engelberg-Älggialp

The sixth stage of the Tell-Trail leads from Engelberg over the Joch pass to Melchsee-Frutt. Then it's past the Hochstollen and on up to Älggialp.

Tell-Trail stage 7: Älggialp - Lungern

The seventh stage of the Tell-Trail leads from Älggialp towards the Brünig pass and Lake Lungern. The destination of the stage is the village of Lungern.
