The Käserei Annen dairy not only offers a wide variety of cheeses but also impresses with various creations ranging from fondue to yoghurt and butter, etc.
The Käserei Annen dairy is situated at 480 metres above sea level, nestled between the Rigi and Mythen mountains by Lake Lauerz. It is an independently run private enterprise with a dairy and three food shops, and is now run by the third generation of the Annen family, who founded the business in 1912. The business has been continuously expanded and increased its product range, and since 2015 can be found with its new look in Frauholzstrasse. The Käserei Annen dairy processes over 3,000 litres of milk a day, all of it sourced from the area of the municipality of Steinen. The milk is used to make the dairy’s specialities: mild Schwyzerkäse cheese, medium Schwyzerkäse cheese, mature Schwyzerkäse cheese, Steinermutschli cheese, Chrottä-Chäs cheese, full-fat and semi-skimmed milk, double cream, dairy butter, yoghurt and fondue. In 2003 and 2004, the Käserei Annen dairy came first in the ‘Swiss Cheese Awards’, and in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012, it was honoured in the category ‘Other hard cheeses’.
Whether it’s a visit of the cheese-production facility or a cosy evening in the Sännä Stube restaurant, the Annen family make almost anything possible. Produce your own butter or be enchanted by the various yoghurts. Or would you like to create your own fondue? Not a problem, thanks to the Annen family!
