This innovative company headquartered in Ibach-Schwyz is today managed by the fourth generation of the Elsener family, who originally founded the business. It was established by Karl Elsener in 1884 as a knife-making business. The first delivery of soldiers’ knives to the Swiss Army followed in 1891. When Karl Elsener invented the original Swiss ‘officers’ knife’ in 1897, he couldn’t have known that it would go on to become world-famous. Today, it is globally trademarked as the ‘Swiss Army Knife’ and represents the world-famous ‘Swiss made’ quality seal like virtually no other product.
Discover the interesting history behind the development of this knife and other milestones for the Victorinox company at the Victorinox Museum. You will also find special exhibits for each of the themed exhibitions. There is also the option of building your own pocketknife under expert guidance.
For over 130 years, Victorinox has stood for quality, functionality, innovation and design. Experience the Victorinox brand world at the Brand Store and discover trusty companions for the adventures of everyday life. Alongside pocketknives, household knives and professional knives, the range includes watches, luggage and perfume.
In a small cinema, you can take in a 15-minute film on the creation of the Victorinox pocketknife and a 10-minute film about the sights of the Mythen Adventure Region. There is also an interactive relief that shows Central Switzerland from a different perspective.
Numerous commercial and tourist businesses present themselves in the Info Lounge. Depending on your interests, you can choose from a selection of video clips. There is also a range of regional specialities, walking maps, gift vouchers and much more available.
