This strenuous hike features plenty of climbing as it follows wonderful paths to the summit. The Wasserberg is visible from afar as it keeps watch, monarch-like, over its subjects.
It's best to start the ascent at the hamlet of Schwarzenbach in the Bisis valley as early as possible in the morning. A few metres above the inn, leave the road and follow the alp road towards Galtenäbnet. At point 1262, take the path to Gigenalp: the Gigen mountain refuge is already above the tree line. You ascend in a little valley towards a small lake, the Träsmerenseeli. The bizarre and almost threatening rock bastions of the Wasserberg's east ridge are to your right. The Träsmerenseeli offers a fantastic view of the Chaiserstock chain. The descent to the Liplis is via the Ober Träsmeren. Passing the Zingel alp you reach a simple restaurant, a good place to pause for something to eat and drink. There's another such eatery 10 minutes further down at the Liplisbüel. On the way to the Muota valley, you follow in the footsteps of the Russian general Suvorov, who in 1799 moved with his soldiers over the Chinzig Chulm to the Muota valley.
